Raw Dissect: Embrace the Hate
By Mike Aires

Welcome Aireheads to what I hope is a new ongoing part of the “On the Aire” series that deep-dives into certain segments, matches, or interviews that could possibly be major angles going forward.  We all know that on the day-to-day basis, Raw and SmackDown’s storylines progress with a fairly normal pace.  However, every couple of months, something happens that alters a storyline enough to get us intrigued.  It could be good OR bad, but it gets us talking regardless.

Tuesday Headlines: SHOCKING! WRESTLING IS DANGEROUS!
By Aires and Fozzie

Aires: What shall we talk about this week?  Lots of TNA in the news, so that should make you a happy camper…

Fozzie: Wow what a slow news week. I really don’t want to do another Cena/Rock item either. I didn’t see the injury to Sorensen. How bad was it?

Aires:  Really bad. Like they thought he was paralyzed.  He’s still in ICU and he can move his arms and his tingling in his legs but still can’t move his legs.

GAME..SET…MATCH?
By Mike Aires

WrestleMania inches closer and closer each day, and more and more matches are slowly begining to take shape.  For the last two Monday Night Raw episodes, we have seen Triple H show his disinterest in facing off with Undertaker for a 3rd time.  However, Undertaker has his sights set on The Game and wants nothing else but to prove he is the best man by being able to be the only one standing in a final match between the two.  The video package they used for Taker on Raw this week was amazing.  I like that they are using the fact that Triple H was the only one who left that match under his own power.  Undertaker could not stand, and was wheeled out on a gurney as Triple H looked on.

Tuesday Headlines: I Can Haz Takerz?
By Aires and Fozzie

Aires: Busy weekend.  Still house hunting and wanting to pull my hair out.  Don’t know if you’ve done it but…it sucks. Super Bowl was pretty good.  Giants winning won me a little bit of money.  I’m sure, as a local New Yorker, that you are currently drunk as hell.

Fozzie: Seriously, I would have loved to be drunk. Work tomorrow killed that for me. Anyway, onto the news!

Selective Hearing By Mike Aires

On The Aire: Selective Hearing
By Mike Aires

Last Friday’s column, besides being about awesome and horrible characters, featured my picks for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.  I was fairly close on my predictions for the entire show, minus a couple of minor things here and there.  Cena and Kane going at it outside of the ring (right by a TJR sign, no less) to a Double Disqualification was fairly predictable.  The World Heavyweight Championship went about as planned, as did the WWE Championship match.  The Rumble, however, was a big freaking curve ball.

Tuesday Headlines: Here Lies The Ho Train
By Mike Aires and Marc “Fozzie” B.

Aires: Obviously the biggest stories this week all revolved around the Rumble…which was decent, if not unspectacular, IMO. I’ve been super busy lately.  Working on buying a house.  It’s a hassle.  So you’ll have to excuse me if my brain is mush for the next 60-90 days.

Fozzie: Umm, wow pretty slow news weekend. Kelly Kelly has to go to driving school? Yawn. Wake me when she goes to “Shut the Hell Up and Just Look Hot” school. Seriously, she needs to be a valet. I’ll take my divas with talent over looks any day.

140 Characters or Less
By Mike Aires

I was re-watching this week’s Raw a couple days ago (since I fell asleep Monday evening), enjoying Brodus Clay dance around and smash the stupid ginger Heath Slater.  It was also fun to see Kane have his first official match since putting on his new/old/new mask and beat the living hell out of someone.  An appearance by Mick Foley wearing familiar Cactus Jack attire always brings a smile.  Why do I bring up these very certain details?  Each of these gentlemen has made a career (so far, anyways) by becoming a completely different person.  Kane doesn’t go home and choke slam his dogs to hell.  I doubt Brodus Clay has to talk to archeologists about being the only living Funkasaurus.  I really hope Mick Foley doesn’t live in a boiler, and scream out for his mommy.

During a recent public appearance, Lex Luger was asked what being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame would mean to him.

“It would just be a tremendous honor if someday I was inducted in the Hall of Fame, but really, we’re here to get down to glory to God now with our lives and serve others and use open vessels for him to bring people to Christ,” says Luger, who in 2006 declared himself a born again Christian. Lex continues, “But, would that be an honor? It’s something that would also help to use as a platform to continue ministry as well. It would be wonderful, definitely.” (Rajah)

Foley Is Good
By Mike Aires

Even after all of these years, it still entertains my brain that a guy who looks like Mick Foley not only competed in mainstream Pro Wrestling, but had a Hall of Fame-type career.  In a land where guys tower over normal sized guys, and have more muscle on one limb than most of us do in our whole body, Foley just went about his business looking like a normal homeless guy…chubby, flannel, and sweatpants.  I think so many people, myself included, connected with Foley for these reasons.  He didn’t seem like some jacked up monster.  He was one of us.  That’s just one of many reasons I was extremely happy with Mick’s “real” debut on Monday Night Raw this week.

WWE executive/part-time wrestler Triple H hinted at a return to the ring in a quote for Sports Business Daily. The sports industry publication printed a list of New Year’s Resolutions from sports executives, including comments attributed to Hunter. “My resolution is to continue sharpening my business and corporate skills in my new role as EVP, talent,” said Hunter, who was listed by his real-name of Paul Levesque. “Although whenever the day-to-day grind of being a company executive gets to me, I still have the opportunity to jump into the ring and take my aggression out on a few unsuspecting opponents.” (SportsBusinessDaily)

As The Beard Grows
by Mike Aires

Last summer, I wrote an article about Daniel Bryan after his unbelievable and unlikely win in Smackdown’s Money in the Bank match at the same-named pay-per-view (that article can be found here).  Bryan and I even had a little feud going when he posted the article on his own website then tore it down minutes later.  He’s been trying to keep me down ever since.  That’s another story for another time, though.  Since then, Bryan’s had several confusing and amazing months.
