If you’re wondering where the Elimination Chamber recap is, I haven’t seen it yet. I was out. I will watch it later in the week and post my recap this coming Sunday. I want to have all the PPVs recapped and I’m sure people reading this want to know my opinion because why else would you be reading? I know what happened, though, so let’s move onto Raw. The ninth WrestleMania was a historic event because it marked the first time a WrestleMania would be held outdoors. They built a ring outdoors at Caesars Palace and they were able to seat nearly 17,000 in the venue. It was an interesting year for WWE. The combination of aging stars and the upcoming Vince McMahon steroid trial loomed large over the company, so that meant changes in the roster.

WWE Elimination Chamber 2012 Preview

John Canton: Welcome to the Elimination Chamber preview by the TJR crew. This year’s February PPV features two Elimination Chamber matches with both the WWE Title and World Title on the line. There’s also what the Ambulance Match that will likely be the blowoff match in the John Cena/Kane “Embrace the Hate” feud. Does this year’s Elimination Chamber event excite you?

The eighth WrestleMania saw a return to a domed stadium as the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis played host to the event. It was a show with a double main event. The World Heavyweight Champion was Ric Flair making his WrestleMania debut as he defended the title against Randy Savage, who had been reinstated after retirement the previous year. The other main event was Hulk Hogan taking on Sid Justice, who was making his WrestleMania debut.

The seventh WrestleMania was supposed to be held at the LA Memorial Coliseum where the Los Angeles Raiders used to play. Due to security reasons, they moved it to the LA Sports Arena where the Los Angeles Clippers played in the NBA. The main event featured Hulk Hogan challenging the World Champion Sgt. Slaughter, who had turned his back on America to support Iraq. This was at a time when the Gulf War was going on, so it was a very patriotic show.

Before I start, I want to send out my best wishes to TNA wrestler Jesse Sorensen who injured his neck during their PPV on Sunday night. Here’s a clip of the injury. There is some good news to report today about Jesse, who is recovering from what is essentially a broken neck. It puts the wrestling business in perspective. I have the utmost respect for anybody that steps in the wrestling ring. It’s not easy. They are putting their life on the line every time they go in there. Please keep Jesse in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

The sixth WrestleMania was very historic because it’s the first time a WrestleMania was headlined by not only a babyface vs. babyface match, but also a title vs. title match. Instead of a villain to face the World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan, it was the popular Intercontinental Champion The Ultimate Warrior, who was the fastest rising star in the company at the time.

It’s right there in the poster above: Mega-Powers Explode. The friendship of World Champion Randy Savage and challenger Hulk Hogan disintegrated after a year of being the most dominant force in wrestling history. Savage was jealous of how close Hogan was getting to Elizabeth, so Randy turned heel on him. It was a huge deal at the time and set the stage for an epic main event at the fifth WrestleMania.

The fourth WrestleMania event was unique in that it’s the first and only time that WrestleMania began without somebody holding what was then known as the WWF World Heavyweight Title. How did that happen?

Live from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this is the Raw Deal…
They showed a video of last week with Undertaker coming back to challenge Triple H only for Hunter to walk away from it. Then they announced matches for the show including a Six Pack Challenge with the six guys in the Elimination Chamber and Daniel Bryan vs. Big Show. Why can’t they announce these matches before the show? Is it because they only came up with the matches hours earlier? Long term planning is your friend, WWE. It’s not that hard to book key matches a week ahead.

The tag line for WrestleMania III was: “Bigger! Badder! Better!” It was definitely bigger than the previous two WrestleManias, the badder line is a marketing ploy and it was a much better show than the first two WrestleManias as well. To a lot of people, this was the first WrestleMania that made it feel like a Super Bowl-like event. Due to a reported 93,173 fans in attendance, it’s the biggest event in WWE history.
