The Midweek Breakdown: Happy Valentine’s Day, Zack!
By Cody Dodson

Hello and a belated Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you! If you go by society’s definition of wrestling fans, 99% of us spent it making love to ourselves while looking at a picture of a new tractor while a NASCAR event played in the background on the TV located in our shacks in some part of deep West Virginia. Of course, society is wrong about wrestling fans, and only 83% of us did that. I kid, I kid. Whatever you did end up doing and whoever you spent it with, I hope it was good. With that said, today’s column is going to be slightly themed, as it has to do with that horrible wonderful emotion of love.

The Lonestar State of Mind: My Royal Rumble

A few weeks ago I stepped inside the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO to experience my very first WWE live event and the biggest WWE PPV to hit St. Louis in quite some time. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that despite being five rows from the ceiling our seats offered an excellent view of both the ring and the entrance ramp and once the show started a grand old time was had by all. I don’t know how it came off on video but the eighteen thousand fans that filled the sold-out stadium were loud! We cheered, we booed, we chanted and screamed. At times we even broke through the rigid lines of heel and face; Daniel Bryan certainly received both boos and supportive chants and the Cena/Kane bout was less a match and more a stadium of people discussing the validity of John Cena for 20 minutes. Conversely, we were hilariously united in our collective ability to not give a shit about the 8-diva tag match. I guess the WWE figured St. Louis needed a Budweiser break.

Canton’s Corner: The Wrestling Week in Review – February 4
By John Canton
Follow me on Twitter at @johnreport

Welcome to Canton’s Corner. It was a good week of wrestling on TV this week. I thought Raw was excellent while both Smackdown and TNA Impact Wrestling were above average this week too. I’ll cover all three of those, plus the usual polls, video, Melo Out and other things you’ve come to expect from Canton’s Corner. It’s the Super Bowl on Sunday. If you follow me on Twitter you know I’m a huge NFL fan, even more than I am a wrestling fan. Before I get to the wrestling part of the column, I need to share my pick.

The Midweek Breakdown: The 10 Count
By Cody Dodson

Ladies and gentlemen, the funk is on a roll, there are too many limes for lobster heads, and the Deadman is back complete with new curled hair action. This is the Midweek Breakdown, and I am your ever so grateful host, Cody Dodson. I want to thank everybody who read last week’s column and left me feedback on the “10 thoughts” format. The feedback was very positive, and it seemed that most of you would rather hear read me ramble a little bit about a lot of things instead of ramble a lot about one thing. I enjoyed writing the column as well. It was over 500 words longer than my normal writing and I didn’t even notice. I’ve decided to make it a regular feature that I will call “The 10 Count.” I’d like to thank the bossman himself, Big Johnny Canton, for that title. I won’t be doing it every week, but it will definitely appear pretty often on Wednesdays as long as you continue to enjoy it. Without further adieu, let’s get started with this week’s 10 Count!

Worst Royal Rumble Ever?
By Matt Seagull

I’ve been watching professional wrestling for more than 20 years now, and my favorite night of the year has always been the Royal Rumble. I look forward to the Rumble like a child looks forward to Christmas, mostly because like Christmas, it only comes once a year. In an age where a Last Man Standing match may be as common as a six man tag, I cherish a match that comes along so rarely. From a writing standpoint, the Rumble kicks off the Road to Wrestlemania, so the main event matches start their build around this time (which has unfortunately been made moot this year with the main event being announced a year in advance). But most of all, I love the Rumble so much because no matter how much I complain about the creative direction of the company, the Rumble is the one show that is impossible to mess up. Or so I thought…

Monday Headlines: Shane Douglas is Completely Delusional

By Jacob Lindsey

Shane Douglas recently did an interview where he talked about his Extreme Reunion show on April 28 in Philadelphia, PA. This isn’t just a reunion show, but a revival of the spirit of ECW in a new promotion that will be led by the Target hardlines manager (or whatever) himself. Uuuuuuuggggggggghhhhhhhh. (more…)

They aired a video package hyping that the winner of the Royal Rumble gets to go to WrestleMania. Lots of people do, but for now we should only believe the winner does.

WWE Royal Rumble 2012 Preview
By John Canton, Andrew Johnson & Christian Michael

John Canton: I’ve always loved the Royal Rumble pay per view. I showed that love last year when I recapped every Royal Rumble match. The concept of the match is wonderful. Even if you think you know what might happen, there’s always a very good chance that something crazy will happen. I didn’t think Cena would win in 2008 or Edge in 2010 because they both made surprise returns. Could there be a surprise winner this year? You never know. The sad thing about the Rumble is that the winner doesn’t really get to “main event” WrestleMania anymore (especially this year), but it’s still one of my favorite matches and I know I’m going to enjoy it like I do every year. Right now there are only four announced matches. I’d expect some kind of midcard match to be added as a buffer to some of the big ones on the card, but I’m not going to guess what they will be.

140 Characters or Less
By Mike Aires

I was re-watching this week’s Raw a couple days ago (since I fell asleep Monday evening), enjoying Brodus Clay dance around and smash the stupid ginger Heath Slater.  It was also fun to see Kane have his first official match since putting on his new/old/new mask and beat the living hell out of someone.  An appearance by Mick Foley wearing familiar Cactus Jack attire always brings a smile.  Why do I bring up these very certain details?  Each of these gentlemen has made a career (so far, anyways) by becoming a completely different person.  Kane doesn’t go home and choke slam his dogs to hell.  I doubt Brodus Clay has to talk to archeologists about being the only living Funkasaurus.  I really hope Mick Foley doesn’t live in a boiler, and scream out for his mommy.

Friday Headlines: 2012 – The Year of the Pay-Per-View

WWE sure likes to change their PPV schedule around, don’t they? The past few weeks have seen several changes to the 2012 lineup, and this week has been no different. After Money In The Bank was replaced with TLC and TLC was replaced with Bragging Rights and Bragging Rights was replaced by Brodus Clay Cooks A Tuna Melt: LIVE, it would appear that we have the finalized* schedule available to us. Check it out:

*Not actually finalized. Summerslam to be moved to a date in February.

The Midweek Breakdown: 10 Things I Think I Thought This Week
by Cody Dodson

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to another fine edition of the column that rises above hate almost 43% of the time. It’s the Midweek Breakdown with me, your ever-so-grateful host, Cody Dodson. It will be January 25th when this column comes out, which can only mean one thing. The Royal Rumble is upon us and thus, the Road to Wrestlemania is about to begin. Now, most people are busy speculating over the standard questions like who is going to win, who will be the surprise entrants, and whether or not the arena will fall dead silent when Heath Slater makes his entrance. I personally won’t try to guess any of these, although I think we all know the answer to one of them. What I will do is give some thoughts on the week’s happenings and the Royal Rumble in the form of the 10 random thoughts format I debuted last time. It got a good response the first time, so let’s do it again!

Quick note: I might make this format a bi-weekly thing if people continue to enjoy it. Be sure to let me know what you think. It’s still in the experimentation phase!
