Wednesday Headlines: CM Punk And Chris Brown Are Becoming Fast Friends

Posted by Andrew Johnson - February 22, 2012 - Andrew Johnson, Headlines

Earlier this week CM Punk was on Twitter and probably bored, so he made a very Andrew Johnson-esque (meaning uncouth and mocking) tweet toward R&B singer/woman abuser Chris Brown. Of course, if you expected Brown to just ignore the comment and let it go with dignity, and not make uneducated claims such as accusing the only straight-edge WWE Superstar of using steroids, then you probably don’t know who Chris Brown is.

If you’re wondering where the Elimination Chamber recap is, I haven’t seen it yet. I was out. I will watch it later in the week and post my recap this coming Sunday. I want to have all the PPVs recapped and I’m sure people reading this want to know my opinion because why else would you be reading? I know what happened, though, so let’s move onto Raw. Live from Minneapolis, Minnesota this is the Raw Deal…

Welcome to Canton’s Corner. Sorry we missed you last week but both John & myself had other commitments. John is currently putting all of his creative writing skills in his Wrestlemania reviews and he’s said previously when there are WWE PPVs his commitment is to writing the preview. So what that means is for the second time ever, Melo Man has you covered!

A Matter of Character – Jinder Mahal
By Matty J. Douglas

Stereotypes have been a part of wrestling for as long as I can remember. From Cryme Tyme, to the Iron Sheik, to Nikolai Volkoff, these characters and many more like them, perpetuated stereotypes about a culture or group, in ways that were fun and entertaining. The WWE has done a good job of presenting us with fun stereotypes, which are okay because they are done for the sake of entertainment, and are for all intents and purposes, entertaining (at least to a degree). Unfortunately the WWE is currently perpetuating stereotypes about people of Indian heritage through the character Jinder Mahal; stereotypes that have not resulted in entertaining or compelling television. THE SMACKING OF WWE SMACKDOWN 2/10/12

Hello and welcome to this week’s Smacking Of Smackdown. We’ve got a lot of stuff to go over, so let’s just jump right into it.

Okay, wait, I should tell you to leave a comment below to let us know what you thought of the show, and this review. Now, let’s get to it.

Oh wait, first, you should check out these Valentine’s Day cards made by myself and Steve Melo that were posted on Thursday. They’re funny/aggressively sexual and worth a quick look. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

You back? Good because while I was waiting I thought you might enjoy everything I’ve ever written at this blog here. Feel free to peruse that at your leisure.

You ready? Then it’s time to smack dat ass! (I know, too ghetto. I’ll come up with something better next week.)

A Matter of Character – JTG
By Matty J. Douglas

Happy Monday to all, and welcome to yet another edition of “A Matter of Character”. Last week I concluded my series of AMOCs, highlighting some of the very talented wrestlers in the WWE’s developmental territory FCW. This week I’ll delve back into the pool of underutilized superstars currently on the WWE’s roster. The underutilized talent I will discuss today will be none other than JTG, formerly of the tag team “Cryme Tyme.”

Welcome to Canton’s Corner. It was a good week of wrestling on TV this week. I thought Raw was excellent while both Smackdown and TNA Impact Wrestling were above average this week too. I’ll cover all three of those, plus the usual polls, video, Melo Out and other things you’ve come to expect from Canton’s Corner. It’s the Super Bowl on Sunday. If you follow me on Twitter you know I’m a huge NFL fan, even more than I am a wrestling fan. Before I get to the wrestling part of the column, I need to share my pick.

THE SMACKING OF WWE SMACKDOWN 2/03/12

Hello everyone, and welcome to the 5th, 3rd, 80th whatever Smacking Of Smackdown review. In lieu of asking you to leave a comment below after you read these carefully crafted words, I would ask you to send a fruit basket or maybe a flower arraignment instead. If that’s a little to inconvenient for you, then I suppose a comment will do.

Alright, let’s smack your cares away! (Great, I thought I finally found a catchphrase but now I have the “Fraggle Rock” theme song stuck in my head. That’s going to be there all day.)

A Matter of Character – Richie Steamboat
By Matty J. Douglas

Happy Monday all, and welcome to yet another FCW Edition of A Matter of Character. This will likely be one of the last FCW editions of AMOC for a while, as I’ve taken an in depth look at all my personal favorites and standouts in FCW over the last several weeks, including last week’s piece Replenishing the Tag Team Division.

This week I will be analyzing the talented second-generation grappler known in FCW as Richie Steamboat. The 24-year-old son of WWE Hall of Famer Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat is one of FCW’s brightest young talents. It is only a matter of time before the WWE decides to call him up to the main roster and let him showcase his talent to a worldwide audience. (more…)

WWE Royal Rumble 2012 Preview

WWE Royal Rumble 2012 Preview
By John Canton, Andrew Johnson & Christian Michael

John Canton: I’ve always loved the Royal Rumble pay per view. I showed that love last year when I recapped every Royal Rumble match. The concept of the match is wonderful. Even if you think you know what might happen, there’s always a very good chance that something crazy will happen. I didn’t think Cena would win in 2008 or Edge in 2010 because they both made surprise returns. Could there be a surprise winner this year? You never know. The sad thing about the Rumble is that the winner doesn’t really get to “main event” WrestleMania anymore (especially this year), but it’s still one of my favorite matches and I know I’m going to enjoy it like I do every year. Right now there are only four announced matches. I’d expect some kind of midcard match to be added as a buffer to some of the big ones on the card, but I’m not going to guess what they will be.

THE SMACKING OF WWE SMACKDOWN 1/20/12

Posted by Andrew Johnson - January 21, 2012 - Andrew Johnson, Columns, WWE Smackdown

Welcome true believers to this week’s sin-tastic review. Smackdown hailed from lovely land of broken dreams Las Vegas last night, so you know what that means; roulette wheel filled with gimmicky matches and lots of “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” comments. Let’s get to it, shall we?

It’s time to SMACK YOU IN YOUR GODDAMN MOUTH. (Wow. Just… I thought that I needed a catchphrase with a little more oomph. That wasn’t oomph, it was just… mean. I’m so sorry guys. That was uncalled for. Friends?)
