Thursday Headlines: WWE Hall of Fame

December 22nd, 2011 39 comments

Thursday Headlines
By Thomas and Aaron Briggs

The WWE is reportedly interested in setting up a physical Hall of Fame in the very near future.  The Hall of Fame would be similar to the MLB Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio in that it would contain famous memorabilia from historic events and top superstars.  According to SEScoops, the WWE is currently looking for a location in the North East or Florida.

It’s a neat idea, but something tells me that viewing an old pair of Hulk Hogan’s tights and ripped t-shirt might not be the most enticing attraction in the world.

Sunday Sharpshooter: The Term “IWC” Needs to Die
By Thomas Avb Briggs

I don’t like the term “IWC.” Never have, never will. For those of you who don’t know what the acronym stands for, it means Internet Wrestling Community. It’s an imaginary group of fans created by people who feel the need to rationalize wide-held beliefs rather than understand that others can share similar thoughts and opinions.

Lists of WrestleMania: Top 10 Main Events
By David Kay

Welcome Cantonia to another edition of the Lists of Wrestlemania with your host, David Kay.  So far we’ve covered a wide variety of topics … some being highly scrutinized, others more light-hearted in nature.  Today we start firing some of the bigger guns as far as listing goes.  We’ll be covering the Top 10 Main Event matches of Wrestlemania.  Before I get into the list, I think there’s a few qualifying things that we need to talk about.  First off, the main event is the final match.  No matter how you split it, no matter how you call it, the final match is the main event.  This keeps a lot of great matches out of the running, so I need to stress that the only ones taken into consideration were the final matches on the card.

The John Report: The Legacy of The Undertaker

March 3rd, 2011 92 comments

The career of Mark Calaway began in World Wrestling Entertainment in 1990. Twenty one years later The Undertaker still reigns as The Phenom. The Legend. The Deadman. The American Badass. Or as WWE is calling him in 2011…The Last Outlaw. Call him whatever you want, but no matter the name the man has earned respect and praise as one of the best wrestlers in the history of professional wrestling. After all, how many wrestlers can say they’ve been main eventing for the biggest wrestling company in the history of the business for over 20 years? Just one man. The Undertaker.

The John Report: WWE Elimination Chamber Preview (With Audio!)

February 17th, 2011 58 comments

John: Welcome to the Elimination Chamber PPV preview. I’m here with David Kay to talk about it. Is The Rock on it? Haha. We don’t think so. We’ll talk about the PPV below, but we have a couple of additions. At the bottom of this preview we’ve got an audio preview (via youtube) as an addition to the written part and also an audio discussion talking about the return of The Rock. It’s all a part of the brand spanking new thejohnreport.net youtube channel that was just launched a couple of days ago. You can scroll down to them, click on play and read at the same time. We make it so easy for you! Oh, the preview. Let’s do that huh?

David: Welcome Cantonia to the middle of Wrestlemania season. Can you smell it in the air? The warm air finally coming back, the 17 tons of steel, and 4 pods that will hold 8 wrestlers … you guessed it, it’s time for the Elimination Chamber Preview with me, David Kay, and the Main Eventer John Canton. The Chamber matches have always been a fave of mine, even though some would say they’re too gimmicky in a world full of stipulation heavy pay-per-views, but I say nay to those … nay-sayers. I love knowing what’s going to happen between the Rumble and Wrestlemania … the problem with this year’s however, is we don’t really know what’s going on. Only three announced matches, and one of them we don’t even know all the competitors yet. Guess the Rock just hit the WWE Universe so hard, that it’s forgetting what’s happening Sunday.

The WWE Raw Deal for 12/20/10 (Cena/Ziggler)
By John Canton
(Follow me on Twitter @johnreport)

If you missed the 2010 WWE Johnny Awards they are HERE. I did not write about TLC and will not write about it, but my buddy Christian Michael covered it live for me. I saw it. I just don’t have the time to write about every single show especially during the holiday season. After this column I’m taking a week off. No podcast this week either. I need the break like we all do. And I’ve had a few people ask me about sending Christmas gifts. I really don’t have an Amazon wishlist or anything like that. However at thejohnreport.net there’s a donation button if you want. I’m not rich and I’m not begging or anything, but since I’ve been asked I figure I’d mention it.

Live from Austin, Texas this is the Raw Deal…

The John Report Podcast #19 12/15/10

December 15th, 2010 9 comments

After a technical snafu last week this is the 19th TJR podcast recorded on Tuesday, December 14th sponsored by clickwrestle.com. I am “Classy” John Canton and I was joined as always by my buddy “The Other Guy” Jason Lynch. We also had a third man this week in fellow TJR writer David K. This week’s podcast consisted of talk about The Slammy’s, the TLC PPV on Sunday, each guy giving three predictions for 2011 and of course we bring it home with the shoutouts. It’s 93 minutes of goodness. At least we think so. We’re a bit biased.

To listen to it click on the player below, save the MP3 file or go with iTunes. The details are below.

SEW: Frequently Asked Questions

August 5th, 2010 52 comments

Hello everyone. I’ve been gone for a few weeks due to some unruly computer issues. But, I have once again taken control of our would-be robotic oppressors, and showed the computer world why man is on top of the food chain. Regardless, it’s not like I’ve missed much. Lately the news in the wrestling world has been either too boring to mention (like the TNA hardcore revival), or too serious and depressing to make fun of (Bobby Heenan/Ricky Steamboat/Billy Graham hospital visits.) So in lieu of the usual mockery of the wrestling world, I have decided to do a feature on some long unanswered Johnson related questions.
